Lash (Self) Love

When it comes to eyelashes, there is nothing I love more than that big, doll-eyed look. Personally, I just think it opens up the entire face and makes everything pop. I used to get lash extensions and would need to get them filled roughly every three weeks. When I decided to give my extensions up, I was dreading the return to my naturally blonde, stubby lashes. I played with the idea of strip lashes and of course growing out my own natural lashes. As far as serums, I was only aware of Latisse at the time and wondered if it actually made a significant difference.

Around this same time, I complimented an acquaintance of mine on her lashes wondering to myself if she got extensions or was wearing strip lashes. She then told me about the product she uses to make her lashes so full – GrandeLash MD. I was immediately sold and purchased my tube of magical lash potion from Amazon that night. Within two days, I received mine and began using it keeping in mind the advice of my friend: Be consistent and patient in using it and you will see results.

GrandeLash MD is a serum that you apply to your lashline like you would a liquid liner. I decided to apply it to both my top and bottom lashes liberally (at least) twice a day, morning and night. I was very enthusiastic. I watched my lashes obsessively in anticipation. It took about three weeks before I remember seeing distinct results. The trick for me was applying it to my bottom lashes. This allowed me to observe the progress better. Our bottom lashes are shorter and we don’t always put mascara or other eye makeup on them like we do our top lashes. Also, somehow, I think that them being that the overall area under our eye is less busy than the top of our eye makes them easier to observe. One day I was putting mascara on my bottom lashes and thought, “Oh my god! My bottom lashes are as long as my top lashes naturally are.” Eventually with mascara on, they began curving under and tips of them began touching the skin underneath. I decided to cutback on using them on the bottom down to two times or so per week.

After about one and a half to two months, my top lashes were long and full and beautiful – and all mine! There were no gaps in them from removing my extensions. My favorite step to my makeup was applying my mascara routine and watching them really come to life. My favorite lash routine is the Lancome CL Booster (primer) paired with either the Lancome Hypnose or Too Faced Better Than Sex. I have blonde lashes and also just like the look of eye make up, but you could certainly get by without mascara if you preferred. You can also apply the serum under your eyeliner. With a shadow primer, I’ve never noticed a difference in the way my eyeliner goes on or stays on with the serum underneath. I would say it took about 3-4 months to stop seeing continuous results and reach my plateau.

One disadvantage I’ve come across is that I have noticed darkening around my top lash line. The veins are slightly more noticeable making the area a little pinker. I am fair skinned, so most things like this stand out on me. This doesn’t really bother me because by the time I have a little shadow and my eyeliner on, you can’t see this area anyways.

So, my takeaway is that I highly recommend this product if you are looking to grow your natural lashes out. If you do give it a try, just keep in mind that you do need to be consistent in using it and give it time. They will keep getting longer and longer for several months. If you’re like me and you want to watch the progression, use it on your bottom lashes. You will definitely notice the length improving.
