Exfoliate!

My friends know that I try all the latest beauty trends. So they come to me with their questions. The latest question is: How do I get rid of this dry skin?

Well, I can tell you a lot about dry skin. Turns out, I get build ups of dead skin, trapping in all the oil and causing breakouts. So while I used to think my skin was oily and I loaded up on drying gels and creams, I was actually worsening the problem. My dead/dry skin was trapping in all the junk.

So just load up on moisturizer, right? Slow down. Moisturizer won't do jack if it can't get to where it needs to go.

So - the question is: Scrubs or Peels? I do both.

Scrubs

I know, I know - "I don't want no scrubs!" I get it, I loved that song as much as those of you who remember it. Why no scrubs? Besides the fact that they have no car and they're walking.. oh wait, wrong scrub. Apparently, they cause "micro tears." Which according to sources all around the internet - cause wrinkles. I don't know if that's true, and honestly, my face feels amazing after a good scrub. So, I'll keep using them (and to really combat wrinkles, we all know to use plenty of SPF).

My faves?

I love French Girl Organics Rose Scrub. Which is getting its own blog soon!

I'm really digging Derma E Hydrating scrub which leaves my skin feeling fantastic.

Chemical Peels

Still no scrubs? That's cool - they'll still try to holler at you. Go with a chemical peel.

You can go to a dermatologist or an aesthetician for a hefty peel. I've had quite a few in my day. Since my skin is sensitive, they end up giving me a fan to help with the sting and burn. But, if you still want to leave your house afterward, try a gentler one at home. You can do a leave on, overnight kind, or a mask.

Here are a couple of my faves:

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. I'll be writing more about this brand soon. This is a mask. Don't leave it on any longer than 10 minutes.

I find it invigorating and it leaves your skin looking amazing!

Paula's Choice BHA liquid - which is a nightly treatment. It does make me peel, so I use it every other night.

Note: Any acid-based product will make your skin more sensitive. USE SPF! And seriously, even without acids use SPF! Of course, i'll be writing more on that soon.

Whether you're scrubbin' or peelin' you have to slough off the dead skin consistently. Stick to a schedule and find what works for you. Share your favorites in the comments below. Are you #teampeel or #teamscrub?
